The
joy and pleasure of living with fine
"Colonial Furniture" is difficult
to duplicate. Properly restored "furniture"
is a pleasure to behold and something that
we at MOORTHY'S & SAUDADES
undertake with a great deal of zeal and
expertise. Also, added to the joy and
pleasure is the fact that it is a good and
sound investment. After dealing in the
international market for the past three
decades we feel comfortable to opine and
share our experience.
We specialize in Indo-Portuguese,
Dutch Colonial and British Colonial
furniture
of the finest quality, as well as early
ethnic artifacts, antique textiles & some
jewelry.
We would also like to add that every 8
weeks we shall have a “paper” posted on this
site, dealing with different aspects of the
history of Colonial Furniture, on the Indian
Subcontinent. This will be accompanied by
some images that will further enhance
interest in the subject.
Several important factors are to be
considered when deciding to acquire a piece
of furniture that should eventually become
an heirloom for your family.
CONDITION, QUALITY, RARITY, PATINA AND
PROVENANCE - at MOORTHY'S & SAUDADES
we enthusiastically and happily discuss all
this and more when a customer wishes to
acquire a piece of furniture. "Restoration"
is the most important aspect, it will
determine the future life of the piece of
furniture and importantly it's value. We
encourage our customers and buyers to look
at the "furniture" in it's unrestored state
and follow it's progress. All eventually
begin to enjoy this process as they are made
aware of what goes into the "piece" at every
stage. "PATINA"
is to be guarded zealously as it is
impossible to replicate. If removed by
scraping down, the wood will react in
climate changes and flat surfaces will
crack, this in turn will affect the
"Value"
of the piece. "Patina"
is what makes the piece stable and delight
to experience and feel.
Finally, the greatest excitement comes
from finding that great piece of furniture
at a "BARGAIN" price once
in a while. This is how great collections
are built up and what gives the world the
opportunity to see great pieces when they go
on exhibition or once in a while, up for
sale.
